Ok, I had a chance to go out and snap a couple pics of the new ramp so here is the ramp. And here is the "ducky dome" it is housed in: The stacked PVC is left over from an old project (over a year ago) but the ducks like hiding under it in the day, so for now it stays. You can see the other...

I got mine at Kmart, but Walmart/Target/Amazon have them all the time for around $100 every year. It is the 12' x 30" model. They are sold under various names but are all the same. They get much more expensive when you get just a little bigger. Intex is the "name brand" but I think mine is a...

Yup, Any water splashing out of the pool is less likely to puddle :) Also, I was too lazy to "surface" the ground, so it is additional protection against small rocks and such. I figure no one will be walking on the floor of the pool, so getting the ground perfect isn't as important.

We are now on our fifth year with this pool. I am currently trying to get a sand filter and UV clarifier plumbed in. The ramp has deteriorated and we've decided that the pool is a great idea. They like it because it's big. We like it because it is low maintenance compared to kiddie pools and...

When we were trying to figure out a good food for the ducks at the pond (that would float in the water), we bought a bunch of Koi pellets. The wild pond ducks wouldn't even look at them (but they will eat a dry moldy Twinky someone throws at them ). So we brought them home and our ducks...

Dried meal worms float a long time (over 24 hrs). When I first started with my ducks I kept a life cycle of live meal worms going: meal worms, pupae, Darkling Beetles. Once I had a good cycle going I tried to feed live meal worms to the ducks. They weren't interested!!! So we went with the...

I got a new toy for the ducks a few weeks ago. It is a tube made for swimming/snow (It has a nice cap over the valve so it can't scratch or hurt a person / duck) I got it with the idea that they might like floating on it, hiding in it, diving under it and it might provide a buffer between some...

My ducks would have the ammonia level up to dangerous levels very quickly (this is actually more of a problem than the solids). The only way I know of to deal with that is a bio filter with bacteria (in my case the swamp ) or a charcoal filter. I am surprised you don't have issues with that...

We got them as fully feathered adolescents. When we first started talking about ducks, I didn't have a clue and we thought we could get a couple Mallards and if it didn't work out we would let them go with the Mallards who live out in the swamp. 30 ft away. We didn't know that this was a...

Yeah, Greta picks on Tevye too. She is soooo sweet with us, just not with the other ducks. Ages: Tella & Ettie 7/13 Closing in on 4 years old. Kaine, Tevye, Entie, Dove, Greta, Roxette, Pocahontas 3/17/14 A little over 3 years old. Rhiannon 3/24/14 A little over 3 years old. Noir &...

Awesome!!! another person with ramp trained ducks I want to post a link to your thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1165474/born-to-swim#post_18337616 and I would hope you expand it. After all with a big pool like that there are many variables for other people. I don't filter mine, but...

Kaine has enough girls that they usually don't do too bad on the neck feathers... There are a couple that get bare from time to time, but usually there are enough girls (13) for Kaine to not over breed one too much. Kaine has a bit of a right to hate Greta. She picks on everybody and will...

It isn't a matter of not liking him. Kaine is the dominant drake, unquestioned leader of the flock, all powerful duck overlord, supreme ruler of all he surveys and a bit of a jerk. Tevye is a drake of mellowness, an artist, although he is a drake, he is gentle (by duck standards) with the...

He just over thinks everything. For him to walk from point A to point B, he has to wander over to point C so the robin doesn't see him, make sure he passes by point D where there is a good little spot to forage, alter his route through point E so that he can get out of the sun a moment, swerve...

Every week Sat / Sunday. It doesn't really take that much active time, most of the time is waiting for the pool to fill. In the summer we do partial drains and fills as needed to keep the water temp below 60 degrees so we don't have too much algae.

I am re-quoting this because here is the video showing "bet they will love it." The ducks got their big pool back for the first time today. (This is year 3... I have spent more on kiddie pools in 3 years than this pool, I am very happy with this purchase.) Yesterday we put it up and put a...
