That's what I was afraid of. We have some decisions to make around here!

I couldn't get all six in one picture, but the one at the feeder has a very small comb.

I'm gonna have to take some pics and post. I'm really curious as to what the heck I have!!!! They are funny to watch and we've cut way back on feed and let them free roam from morning to dusk. They swarm me when I come home from work.

So, after reading all these threads, and thinking I had one 'roo......can I assume that there might be more than one? After all, if they were sold as meaties, then the sex wouldn't matter. If all this is true, I'm thinking the little 'runt' might be the only female? No wonder she is so...

I can't complain to tsc because hubby bought them and didn't know what he was buying. I have a dumb question. How do 'franken chickens' keep breeding if they don't lay eggs? That's OK, I'm quite a believer in the strong will survive. We've lost some red layers too due to unexplained...

Well, they might have 'health issues', but we want chickens mainly for eggs. (And we give 99% of them away) Not meat. So, they will live out there natural life in more comfort than their ancestors. We'll be much more careful if/when we buy chicks from TSC. Shame on them.

Oh, we've cut back alright! And we let them out every morning and put them in at night. When I read hubby this thread about 'franken-chickens' and being bred for meat, he made the decision to just stop feeding them so much and try to integrate them.....so far so good. We have a creek running...

So, we cut back on their feed and let them out of the pen to free roam and they are slimming down and doing good. Funniest thing is a couple mornings ago when I was leaving for work, I heard a 'cockool-doo-da-do. So, now I have a rooster!!!!!

I can't,,,,but I do understand why there are farms that do it. After all, I like my fried chicken too. Thank God there are people who grow them for meat.

Thank you. That's what I needed to hear. "Frankin Chicken' Bodies describes them well.

Definitely over feeding....but I didn't know why until today! The 'reds' don't overfeed, so I never thought about it until the white ones did nothing but eat and get fat and lazy!

So, if I'm not looking for 'meaties', but 'eggies', what should I do next?

Oh wow. I guess I'll have to do some research. I did mention to hubby today that they already have more meat on them then the older girls.

I have three 2 year old red sexlinks that are awesome. Bought 6 chicks at TSC in April. They are already bigger than my reds, have huge fat legs. They waddle around a few steps and plop down, but have been going in and out of coop to free range a few feet from the coop. They have never ever...
