    Starting that duck house

As we all know.....life gets a bit crazy. While I HAVE been changing the ducks pool every other day I have been doing it at 4am. :hmm That is to dark for pictures. This morning 16 chickens have been sold and left to their new home. That freed up the big run to be just for the ducks. They now...

    Starting that duck house

That is where that python will be handy. Not as much bending, no buckets, just put the out end where I need it. If it is downhill no need to have the faucet on except for initial pull to get it started. The uphill.....I am going to try putting the action end into a piece of pipe I drilled holes...

Well mine add "fertilizer" . 😳 Still....since they like to drink and dibble in it I want it unfermented 🤢 I started priming and taping to paint the garage.....why are there super high ceilings in garages??? :th

    Starting that duck house

Tuesdays and Fridays are my plan and so far it is working well. They get so excited about a fresh pool! I will try to get pics Tuesday of the python siphon in action. Whoever came up with that was a genius!

    Starting that duck house

Ok so I have done a couple water changes since the deck went in. So far it is working great! It was dry under the ball valve access door. I use the pressure nozzle to spray the poo off the deck. That works very well to knock it through the fence. I can rake that area as needed to prevent build...

My limping duck has not been limping since they got increased pool access. So far she is at least a day and a half limp free. :wee

    Starting that duck house

Naw. Decades ago I had to decide if I was willing to pay big bucks for others to do things for me or figure it out myself. I didn't have big bucks so off I went. Not everything has gone well but I can do enough it makes it worth the effort. I have had a few very good teachers along the way too...

    Starting that duck house

Thanks! Mostly I am just stubborn. :p Building this has been a challenge for problem solving. I got lucky that the posts I built between were still straight and true. I definitely would not choose to build between posts if there were any other option. Hanging siding alone is a pain in the...

    Starting that duck house

I know that being on clay soil now as opposed to sand when I had ducks before I had a LOT of questions. I found very few answers so....trial and error and hoping to save at least one other person a few headaches. Next up.... Setting up a less messy drinking water station. The plan is to dig...

    Starting that duck house

While important to share what we are trying out....it also may help to share what DIDN'T work. The anti-slip tape made by 3M for use on stairs was no match at all for determined bills. They worked it loose and used water to peel it off totally defeating the adhesive. Straw in my run.....yeah...

Maybe stacked flagstone as that can be rounded some or pick and choose the arched ones..... When I cut the plywood to go around the tank I laid the wood on top and traced around from underneath with a marker. I think you could get a template out of cardboard to take to the landscape supply store...

    Starting that duck house

I do have stacked blocks on the end by the ramp. Sometimes they just pop up over the edge but most of the time they use the blocks. It is actually a stock tank so even worse than a preformed as there are no ledges at all.

I may try to apply a sam splint.....gonna be fun....not. I think another option may be finger splints as those can be bent into shape, are padded and vet wrap will hold in place.

    Starting that duck house

There was a visible side movement yesterday as I was going in to help her into the duck house at coop closing. She went to stand and I saw it kick outward at the joint. I would say she is spending 80% of the day moving just fine....fine enough that I have a hard time picking her out of the...

    Starting that duck house

Before adding the hardware cloth to the front and resetting the ramp I ran a small tiller through there and picked up any rocks. The ramp has anti-slip tape to help them get a grip. So far so good. They are all able to navigate the ramp as well as a couple popping up over the edge of the deck...

    Starting that duck house

Holy moly this is taking me FOREVER to get done. Yesterday I got the duck deck built. Today one coat of light gray porch and floor paint. Once it is dry I will do a second coat. :woot For the mistint section at Home Depot. The porch and floor paint was there! Deliberately sloped so excess...

    Starting that duck house

Putting this roof on and duck house in I removed 3 10-12 foot tall lilacs, one hydrangea, 4 staghorn sumac, a long strip of just flowers and more. It was gut wrenching to lose some of that. The sumac may make a comeback from the roots....don't tell my hubs that....he hates sumac. Oh and I took...

Ok so not much able to happen until Saturday but..... Pool drain run to outside the run. Yup straight out to the fence. I may put a 90 on it and run it into another pipe to use the water on the bed behind the run. It all depends on how much debris they put in the pool. Not a good picture by...
