This is dangerous advice for people not located in extremely cool climates or people whose coops are not located in deep, all-day shade.
Where I live a clear roof would turn the coop into a solar oven that would literally cook the chickens alive.

I was stirring stuff up yesterday to break up the manure under the roosts and since only September I'm up at least 8-10 inches (my coop is on a slope, so I'm constantly having to throw stuff uphill).
I like horizontal nipple waterers, which I make myself out of Rent-A-Coop nipples from Amazon and empty frosting buckets from the grocery store bakery (I work in the deli), and the traditional metal hanging feeders with the deep pan and the rolled lip that prevents waste.
Of course chicks...
The Usual Guidelines
For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
4 square feet in the coop (.37 square meters)
10 square feet in the run (.93 square meters),
1 linear foot of roost (.3 meters),
1/4 of a nest box,
And 1 square foot (.09 square meters) of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation...
