Slightly panicked: Starting to build our Coop...just got 13 Chicks!!!

I don't use sticks to herd them I call it the drunk walk. Spread your legs out wide and react to their every attempt at dodging you. I have no idea what the neighbors think of me, but it must look comical. DW calls her version the drunken sailor.

I think they just don't order the chicken I do. Mine are here as pets and not production breeds. The dogs love finding their egg nests and protect them for those butt nuggets. If the water meter guy tried to take an egg from this property, well, I would need to call my insurance agency.

I would like to suggest you move them to more shade if possible. I live in hades and my chicken rarely venture out in to full sun.

I like his coop too. I think I once described it as a surgical suite. Nothing like the functional stuff I build. Regardless, he totally outpro'd me building that coop.

Slightly panicked: Starting to build our Coop...just got 13 Chicks!!!

Yep chicks/chicken are always happy and busy. Mine only complain when they come in for egg laying time and the special laying box is occupied(nothing special about it but to them it is), or when I show up 5 minutes late opening the coop door. I walk to the coop getting yelled at the whole time...

We did it backwards as well so you are in good company. I still need to repaint the room I brooded out my first flock in 3 years ago. Fortunately we do not use that bathroom much.

At 5 weeks and 3 days of age this little gal(I think) can already fly up to my shoulder. I am 6 feet and change.

Oh yes they will. I like flighted breeds so they outgrow brooders in about 2 weeks. Even those TSC 150 gallon galvanized things aren't holding chicks for long.
