I have a question about the 2nd equation.
Here is what I would do (sorry I used to grow up with a,b and c so I have a hard time switching to a q):
-1a(2) +5a+14= 0
-1 a(2)+5a= -14
-1a(2)+5a= -14 multiply *(-1)
1a(2)-5a= 14
a(a-5)=14
a(a-5)=14 devide by a
a-5 = 14/a
a=7
