    Good question. I've never seen them, I'm going to check them out tomorrow. I asked to be put on the waiting list for whatever kind of zebras they could get their hands on, up to and including the hooved kind. :p Does BYC have a finch thread? It should.

    Honestly, my parakeets are about twice the work. I've been trying to switch those finicky little buggers over to pellets and changing out all their food stations and giving them fresh greens daily is far more complicated than the button/CPQ care!

    Japanese quail (coturnix) are even easier. They have calm temperaments and can be housed basically like small chickens that can't be allowed to free range.

    Not at all! I keep my Chinese painted quail indoors most of the year, and it's really not complex. As ground birds, quail—particularly CPQ—appreciate having cover; it helps decrease neurotic behaviour and frequent flushing (which comes with the danger of head injury.) I have a cardboard shelter...
