I am still getting 4 out of 5 duck eggs. My older one isn’t laying but the other 4 are.
The duck I gave to my mom with her baby, never started laying again after being broody and the move. She is the same age as my gals that are laying so I think it’s interesting how stressors can impact laying.
So submerging eggs in water like that is considered a no no by our department of agriculture. Apparently bacteria can get in the porous shells if they are submerged. https://agr.wa.gov/getmedia/b1f20c01-277b-46bb-b87a-e02f52a92aaa/26.pdf
I just just wipe and dry mine when poopy.
We are fortunate to have 2 nesting pairs year round, now that I know they like scratch I will leave some for them. The also occasionally steal eggs but I don’t mind
This summer we had a bald eagle perch on our highest tree and survey my land deciding which well fed morsel he was going to eat. A crow about half his size flew into him and knocked him off his perch and chased him away. The bald eagle didn’t even put up a fight
I’ve been dealing with broody antics, so I’m averaging on 4-5 eggs from the ducks depending on what I can find. Also had an eagle attack last week and my drake was pinned down until I rescued him, so they are all locked up in their yard while he heals. It’s easier to find the eggs now.
I am getting 6 duck eggs and over a dozen chicken per day but I had to worm the chickens so instead of discarding them, I am blowing them out. I think I’m going to make a wreath
Yesterday I had 2 chickens in a nest cubby laying at the exact same time and 2 waiting in line complaining loudly... 3 other empty cubbies available....
