Thanks! Bf and I dipped into savings a bit :lau It's worth it though, they really needed a better, safer space. I'm so happy with it!

    Comfortable flooring options for pen

First peak! I'll get better photos tomorrow once the final jobs are done, I was too preoccupied tonight, watching Dougie and Spry enjoying their new pond! They LOVE it! It's got sandy soil underneath, layers of gravel, and a plug. So that should help to drain it for cleans. I turned their...

Automatic scooper? Aye, but that would be me, constantly cleaning up after them

Just you wait and see 😌 I reckon I've figured this "mud free" business out! (Blissfully arrogant over here)

Well! A while later but the pen is almost finished. Some wire left to do, and the pond... some things to tidy up. But mostly there The girls spent their first night in their new coop... honestly it's more of a house. Or shed. Bit of a mansion... They seemed to like it! It's definitely much...

    Comfortable flooring options for pen

Well, my partner and I have had a long talk and decided to put a few hundred pounds of modifications into the pen. :th These girls will be treated like royalty! We've even decided to more than likely replace their coop, as it has deteriated to the point of (very likely) no return. That coop was...

I meant to reply to this Yes they will still take bedding out of their coops probably. Sprightly never does this, but Dougie... she's a trouble maker. She will pick up mouthfuls of muddy/mucky bedding, straw that gets damp etc, wherever she can find something and dump it into their water bucket...

    Comfortable flooring options for pen

I did have a look online and it does seem affordable, worst case scenario I might only be able to do gravel and mats on one half of the pen under the pool, and then figure something out for the other side But I think I might be able to do the whole thing. I definitely don't want them walking on...

    Comfortable flooring options for pen

Frankly I'm not even sure if it's suitable, it belongs to my dad and he offered it to me. It isn't what I thought he meant, when I got a look this morning. I'm not sure the name of it, it's a very coarse gravel. If I had to guess I'd assume its grey whin mixed with something else. I haven't...

Ah I know the kind, I'll have a quick look online and see what I can find. What kind of sand is best for duck pen use btw? I'm not sure I'm likely to go for that option but just in case

    Comfortable flooring options for pen

Hmm I guess it would be difficult to rake up... I'm really not sure what I can use in-between the layers :hmm Money is again an issue for me and I'm trying to work with things I have, I have gravel, and I might be able to get something else but I'm hoping for an inexpensive option

Do you think shavings would be okay directly over the gravel? That should prevent them walking on rough ground right?

Here's some pictures of the pen, excuse the mess here and there, I've just changed out the straw yesterday but there's some areas still needing doing. I had other jobs today so I'll finish the clean up tomorrow. As you can see, the wire isn't brilliant. It needs completely redoing because time...

Sure, I'll get some pictures in a minute before I put the animals to bed. For references it's 3 metres by... 5? Almost 5?. I don't recall exactly but it's somewhere around there

I've tried dirt, I've tried wood shavings, I've tried straw.... but everything eventually turns to a muddy mucky mess! Plus the wasted money from replacing bedding so often. Even with the pen covered, it gets wet and muddy in no time. I've heard of sand, gravel, patio slabs around the pond etc...
