Does he have barred plumage and have white spot on his head as a chick? That's how you know if a Sex-Link is a male. Some dominant hens can try to crow.

I agree with Michael. I've had several Black Sex-Links (though not the standard cross), and they were great! Here's mine. One contained some Australorp, I think, and the other some Delaware.
