I just put sand in my coop and so far it's doing great, but to do the whole run I need to save up more money. Called one place about maybe getting a cubic yard of river sand and they said it's gonna be round $75 after tax. Ouch! Maybe wood chip for now?

What can I use for the bottom of my opened air "run" which is roughly 20'x30'. The ground can get very smelly and muddy when it rain and I am looking for a way to prevent it. I was thinking of using wood chip or mulch but I am open to any suggestion.
