How many hens should I use for my coop???

What kind of eggs are you hatching? I wish you success in your backyard chicken keeping.

How many hens should I use for my coop???

Yes a recommendation that the OP has only enough space for one chicken should have been countered. If the OP needs any help on design, construction or set up of their new chicken adventure, I would be happy to help with some reasonable information and experience. Wish ya the best.

How many hens should I use for my coop???

I wonder why beekissed went and edited his responses? Hmmm. I see the coop sizes changed to the OP's original dimensions given. I wonder if everyone noticed?

How many hens should I use for my coop???

I stand corrected. It is 73 1/3 sf. And anyone stating that more than 1 chicken for this space is asking for poor health of a chicken. ;) Totally reasonable.

How many hens should I use for my coop???

Hopefully the OP will have a understanding that putting more than 1 single chicken in their set up as described is not a recipe for unhealthy chicken keeping. However your changing of opinion to 2 to 3 chickens isn't that far off from my original and unchanged idea of 4/5 birds at least lets me...

How many hens should I use for my coop???

I find that the original statement by beekissed was that this space provided by the OP was only good enough for 1 chicken. Then they later stated that 2or3 chickens would be max. Then the "cramming" "jail" and "clown car" and unhealthy conditions of chickens were associated by too many...

How many hens should I use for my coop???

Every coop has a purpose and use. How we use them in our our efforts for eggs, meat and pets is up to each of us. I hope the OP understands that chickens don't need a mansion to be happy and healthy.

How many hens should I use for my coop???

A good rule of thumb is 4 sf per full sized chicken in the coop and 10 sf per bird in the run. Using that figures to be 4 or 5 chickens. I remember mentioning that in the first response. Raising chickens for 30 yrs now I have used many different coops and set ups. You will figure it out and...

How many hens should I use for my coop???

I fit 8 healthy and happy hens in this 4X4 coop with a run attached. So I think you would be fine with 4 or 5 full sized chickens. I see your coop dimensions are 6' X 4. With the addition of your 48 sf run you should be ok.
