With those symptoms, there are just too many things it could be to speculate.

No need to feel foolish. I grew up with flocks of 100 white leghorn hens. Then, more recently I had black leghorns and several other Mediterranean breeds.

Leghorn hens' combs are supposed to flop over, just like most other Mediterranean breed hens.
