I thought I got the big one! He spent 3 hours one night running from the poison bar to the shed, back and forth and back and forth. Nope =/ Go to about 1:25 and watch the lower left corner. He's HUGE!

My daughters are allergic to cats and northern Utah's too cold for an outdoor cat, otherwise I'd be all over that! Hmm, someone needs to loan me a cat.

Howard E? How would you Rat proof this then? It's the new chicken run. Don't worry about the roof. That'll come later. It's 5x10x6'. I was going to double decker half of it, but I'm open to suggestions. I've never poured cement before.

I have my bait trap built and the anticoagulant poisons come in today. I'm fighting a losing battle right now. I reinforced the chicken run last night with a 2nd layer of hardware cloth, so today I watched on security camera as 5 rats got into the run anyway and took over the chicken coop so...

My youngest is allergic to all animals, and it's too cold here to have outside pets (except chickens). We're stuck with standard poodles. Every other dog she's allergic to. Our poodle doesn't give the rats a second glance.

Just to see what I'm fighting. I see that the rats somehow removed the hardware cloth on the left-hand part of the screen. I'll fix that when I get home. Little buggers. That hopefully will keep them out of the run and therefore out of the coop for now. I am still working on a new coop/run.

Oh, the milk idea is great! I have little piglet chickens who make a huge mess while feeding. The milk will make them less inclined to spill it everywhere. I am seeing a LOT less rat action this morning in the daylight than yesterday. Around noon I had four rats in the tunnels eating happily...

Thank you igorsMistress, that gives me a good place to start. I'll feed them some this morning and some after work and before bed. Hopefully 3 meals a day will satisfy them until I get the rats under control. The nipple waterer usually keeps their coop completely dry, so I don't think the...

They are out of town, but I fully plan on talking to them when they get back. They are an older couple and I'm going to offer to help them get rid of the rats. I have another question. I have an EE and a RiR, full sized. How do I know how much to feed them daily? I've always let them eat...

Thank you for the advice. I'm still reading that link above. We went on a hunt last night in the dark and found that the rats are tunneling into our yard from our neighbors yard. They have a massive shed and we could hear them scurrying around inside. It honestly sounded like hundreds of...

No, it's not raised. It's a resin shed with attached floor. I have security cameras on them and the rats have gotten into the run but not the coop so far.

I've been reading other rat stories on here and we're in trouble. They are out during the day, and at one point I saw 6 of them at once in the tunnels below the run. I'm very overwhelmed by this.

Security footage is in. I have tons of rats! UGH. Now what? They aren't interested in the live trap at all. I don't want to poison them in case they die where my dog or a chicken can get to them. I need advice.

Our chickens were very skiddish and I saw digging against the hardware cloth that surrounded their run for a while. Last weekend I saw a tunnel that managed to go under the hardware cloth that we buried 2 feet out around the run! So I hurried and created a floor out of the hardware cloth...
