Container gardening is always a good alternative. Pots can be moved around if the area doesn't work. Very tall and vining type veggies should be left in place though. But carrots, beets, various salad greens, potato, zucchini, all could be decorative and edible. Well, zucchini can get pretty wide.
Hmmm...I'm not going to decide quickly now. You've given me ideas to think about. Let's see what happens as weather warms. Boy am I looking forward to that!
