Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Grandson walks his dog at night and turns on the spotlight. I’m concerned it disturbs the chickens sleep. We nailed these up this afternoon. Ladybugs design on windows, an old Continental Airlines blanket for the door. Should do the trick, right?

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Painted some primer today. Need to do some brushwork still. Not crazy about the white color but that's how it will stay till spring to protect the wood. I preferred the look of the wood but it needed protection. In spring if all goes well my grandson has some ideas for a paint design he'd like...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

:gigI love that you used my new word "popway"! I needed a word to describe the hallway fence that connects the pop door opening to the run opening. My coop does not connect to the run as it was built after the chain link run was already in place covered in hardware cloth. I was dreading...

I think I saw that and that's where I got the idea for plexiglass. Great idea! Love it. The only problem with the cutting board is I couldn't find one big enough. Chris (sil) made the opening a 12 inch square. He built the frame 18X26, bigger than I had imagined but, hey, it's strong!:yesss...

Thank you @aart . And thank you for all of your advice. I've learned so much on this site and hope to be able to share my experience to help other newbies who are as clueless as I was. I'm not done learning. I never will be. If you're not learning you're not living!:highfive:

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Thank you. My girls didn't even seem to notice they weren't going outdoors for the first 2.5 weeks while we built the popway. I guess that means they like it. :gig I started on this coop in the beginning of March, 16 months after starting to raise chickens. This took 8 months to complete. Don't...

Thank you! You've always been so encouraging. I really do appriciate that. I'm glad to hear you're so close to the end of constructing yours. I'm sure Gary and Jane and the rest of the flock are going to love it. (See that? I remembered 2 names from your flock. Pretty good considering I'm...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

As I was saying before my cell so rudely cut me off...the plan is to use some chicken wire to extend Roopecca's run within the main run. And we hope to also extend the main run to compensate for run area lost to Roopecca's run. Of course I need to get the outside of the coop painted. The...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

IT. IS. DONE! kinda. Just a few cosmetics and unforseen adjustments needed, but they are in the coop, they have their popway, and food and water are back in the run, not the coop!. This video waa done quickly because I knew my cell was dying, and, yup, it did as you will see.

No, I've never followed wind on radar. Temperatures and precipitation seemed all I needed to know. I mean, yeah, I know where it comes from when weather reports say we're getting a nor'easter. So now, will prevailing directions change with seasons? Or will I have to check it daily? Yeah, I'm...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Door was closed. I felt it at my knees coming from above as it traveled down from my arms. I have never been able to figure out which way prevailing winds blow. I want a rooster weather vane for the top of my coop.

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

The poopboards and roosts are about waist high or a bit above. It's a cool day unless you are in the sun. I was wearing a summer dress. I was standing in the middle of the coop when I was hit with a cold shot of air, then again as the breezes blew outside. I felt it on my arms and knees. I...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Photos can be deceiving so I'm using 2 videos to ask a question. The first is inside the coop, second is outside. Ok, so inside I also kinda sorta can't help myself but to video the ladies for a bit. I hope someone can give me some sort of idea for my coop problem.

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

This all makes perfect sense, thank you. The only problem I would need to solve is that my poop board is lower than yours. There is only about 3 inches of space above the dog crate, no room for rooftop access to a dog x pen.

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Yes, I've considered that. I may at some point build a more permanent area there that can be used for brooding, broody breaking, and introductions. This cages openings are too big for chicks and I'd still need to affix some sort of chick doors. Not crazy about bending down much either. I like...

Finally starting my walk in coop. Want to follow?

Normally the crate is for introductions or broodies. I won't be putting water and food inside once I let them out into the run again in a few days. Meanwhile, while they stay locked inside, the waterer isn't taking up additional space AND the tray can catch any spills keeping the coop dry.;)
