    New Coop! Upping My Game!

I have one that lays anywhere but the corners! In the middle of the coop floor, middle of the run, directly underneath the hanging feeder, dropped to the ground from the ramp from the pop door, and RARELY in the nest! I see her in the nest and think maybe she’s gonna lay there. Nope. She hangs...

Love the compost in the run idea. I’ve seen videos of others that practice this method. Looking at percentages of land is pretty interesting. Never thought of it that way. I think if I were to think of it that way I would want to calculate my own footprint first and deduct that from the 1acre...

No bedding at all is in the bucket, or at most a cup full. I have poop boards covered with PDZ. I scoop the poop as the PDZ sifts through. I did make a mistake though. It’s not a 5 gallon bucket, it’s a 3 gallon bucket. Oops.

Sure, my measurements were more to give a mental picture of it’s size. Obviously I don’t know your perimeter shape. My own 1 acre property is a long triangle. Chickens don’t generally fly but they can jump and glide. I don’t trust fences with chickens but that’s me. I also don’t trust fences...

I was thinking of 80 chickens in a coop meant for 40 tops pooping on the cardboard. My 8 hens fill a 5 gallon bucket in less than a week, probably a bucket and a half in a full week. That’s 15 five gallon buckets a week, or over 2 five gallon buckets a day. That’s some messy cardboard to be...

Exactly why I recommended poop boards.

Right! A run will need to be 800sqft. That’s like 20ftX40ft. Add a coop of 320sqft, put it at the 20ft end of the run, now you have an area of 20ftX56ft which is 1120sqft. That’s a darn good chunk of occupied land. Of course it won’t have grass in it, but 80 birds allowed to free range will be...

Agree. Agree, especially that this is a heck of a good find! Agree! There are times you may need to confine them for safety or health reasons. Have you considered poop boards? Hang 10 nests at the very bottom, use a poop board to cover it on top. Add roost. Ta daaa.
