Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Another and probably last update on Flynney. She laid her first egg today!! I can’t even express how proud I am of her. A couple of months ago she was barely alive, and I could have never imagined her living to lay an egg. It’s a beautiful pinkish colored one. Large, too, almost as large as a...

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Another update!! Flynney is doing so well. I’ve had some people say it’s a cockerel and some say a pullet, but since she has a lack of saddle feathers atm I’m calling her a girl😂 She has progressed so much in movement and growth. She is still awfully small for her age but growing quickly...

I was looking at THIS pad because of the low wattage it takes. I do know that if the power goes out he won't have heat, but we rarely have power outages that last overnight. The doghouse will have a roost for the buddy. I think I know what you mean, I think I can cover the big cracks in the...

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

I live in northern California. We get about 2-3 snows per year plus a lot of dry freezes. We never get below 20 degrees F. He has started sleeping with his legs under him now that he is walking. I am planning to convert a wooden doghouse for him and insulate it, and I'd like to get a small...

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

I know they can be mean, in fact his flock tried to kill him as well, before I took him out and isolated him. I’m planning on him meeting a few chickens I have in mind that I know to be nice, and go from there. I’d like him to have a buddy this winter, but I won’t just put him in with a...

I thought a pullet would be better too, but a couple people on here said I should get another rooster because they said unless a rooster has multiple hens he isn’t happy. There is a chance Flynn is a girl anyway, so I may be able to get the companion I have in mind anyway😂

Update: He’s progressed so fast! Last night he slept with his feet under him for the first time in 2 months! When I went to feed him this morning he was standing in his cage! Below is a link to a short clip of him standing and walking a few steps. New video here @Wyorp Rock

We won’t have to worry about him reproducing, we don’t have other chickens and when we get him a companion it will be a silkie cross rooster.

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Yes, pretty much. Only inside for short periods of time. His poop was building up on his backside, since the maggots I have kept the feathers trimmed and given him regular baths. I haven’t had a second case and it’s been almost two months so I’m hoping the poop building up was the problem.

Exciting news! He has started trying to walk!! I made a short video and the link is below if you want to see how he is doing See clips of him here I know it looks awful but compared to not being able to walk at all it’s a improvement. @Wyorp Rock @oldhenlikesdogs

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Update!!! First, his name is Flynn. He’s named after the Flynn is Disney’s Tangled. Still not standing on his own but is walking with help, gained some more weight but only weighs about 1 pound. He can eat on his own now though, so that has helped him gain weight. I have a deep bowl I set in...

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Update: He seems cheery still and is walking more, an average of 20 feet a day now. Eating a ton and has gained 1.5oz in 5 days. Still tiny compared to other chicks he hatched out with😢 Still haven’t named him LOL, I can’t think of anything that fits😂 Also have been taking him on car rides, he...

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Thank you! I don’t think I’ll put him down quite yet, he took a few steps today so I’ll wait a while to see if he continues to improve. RE the maggots, I have not seen anymore and I have kept his bedding clean and sprinkled with DE to deter flies. I also sprinkle a little on his behind(not his...

@Wyorp Rock Here are the photos. I unfortunately don’t have a picture of the worms, but they were white with a dark head and stripe down their back. The largest ones were about 1/2” long, the smallest about 1/8”. How he stands when eating. He can’t balance but can support his weight His comb...

Also, he was pooping worms... and got skinny immediately after the worms came out. which is why i thought it might be parasites.

Laying down his legs are out. Standing his left leg is usually held behind him and his right supports his weight.

Sick 6 week old chick... many symptoms

Hello, I'm taking care of a chick that is about 6-7 weeks old. He or she cannot walk, which indicates Merek's, yet he was hatched into an established flock with no new chickens introduced since he hatched. I have been hand feeding and watering him since he cant stand up, and yesterday I woke up...
