The brooder plate is better because it simulates the mother duck better than the heat lamp. Also, the brooder plate is safer then the heat lamp.

Do they have a heat lamp or a brooder heating plate?

That means they are F&W Indian Runners.

Maybe they are Pekin or Fawn and White Indian Runners. If they stand up vertical that means they are Runners.
