You are a hero! You should get an award for being so diligent and awesome in this hatch. You went far an beyond what a lot of people out have done. I commend you in all of this!

So much cuteness! You did great! Don't keep beating yourself up over what happened. Chances are the poor little thing wouldn't have made it. Focus on what beautiful little babies you have now and love on them.:love

I always take the shells out of the incubator as soon as I see that they are fully detached from them. I do not leave them in the incubator for long, maybe an hour or so at the most. As soon as I see that they have rested, have their little legs under them and start really moving around they...

Please don't blame yourself. WVduckchick told me when I was going through mine that sometimes their little heads are stuck in the wrong place and they just don't make it. It seems like that may be there case with yours. :hugsYou did the best you could and I think you did a great job. Some things...

poor little thing might just be resting. Hatching is hard work. if you can "guess" at where the bill is and if there is a part of them membrane near it that you can make a tiny hole in it I'd vote to do it to let some air in there.

I don't think your other ones are going to be affected. I am not one that worries about opening the incubator and usually, my spring hatches are very good. Just relax and wait which is the hardest part. You're just going to have to deal with the coconut oil but think of all that you've learned!

well, good, doesn't sound like yours is backwards! Just do what Natalie says and leave it be and don't let it dry out.

I could see the bruising on my egg on the "wrong" end of the shell too when Natalie was helping me so I knew he was headed the wrong way. So as the day progressed and under her direction I knew I had to keep picking at the shell going toward that other end to get his bill out so he could breath...

i only had one other, the other 6 had already hatched. The last 2 had no pips at all so I actually took a scalpel and made a hole in the air cell ends of both eggs hoping to get things started. I knew they were alive. I made enough of a hole in one that it zipped by itself but my last little...

I just shot a private message to wvduckchick with a link to your thread. Hopefully she will see it soon and give you good advice. I know when I was doing mine I had that egg in and out of the incubator about 50 times that day. It was VERY stressful but worth it. The little duck made it too! He...

I didn't see your pictures before my last post to you. Don't feel bad, it looks like you chipped it in the right place. Let the little one rest. I don't see any bleeding either which is great! You do need to get some vaseline or something on the membrane though! Use a q-tip to gently do it.

@WVduckchick is the expert in this. She helped me so much this spring with a very difficult egg and it worked. She recommended vaseline on the membrane, said it lasts longer than coconut oil. Hopefully she'll see this tag and get to you.
