Okay so if the most frequently seen sign of the disease is sudden death, I guess there will not be many visible symptoms to tell me if they are being harmed by eating the layer.
Any idea what symptoms we would see? I have quite a few Peas that are approaching 20 years old now, all seem functional and healthy, can I assume that eating the layer has not done them harm, if I'm not seeing problems? I realize you're not a vet, just wanting an opinion here.
That Calcium to phosphorus ration seems to be linked to quite a few different issues. When researching the Twisted Tibia, I found studies done in Australia that showed raising calcium and lowering phosphorus could reduce the likelihood of ratites developing TT.

Well, my chicks eat medicated chick starter until they are about 5 months, and by that time the others are usually on the grower/finisher, so not really a problem with them. I've not really come across anything related to too much calcium in adults either and that's why it got me curious.
