Australians - Where are you all????

The lady that I bought my last 2 coronation sussex from, puts her rooster in a box every night and locks him in the shed. She lives in the country, but said that he had taken to sitting under her bedroom window. She said that he was very good about it, so used to it that he simply hops in.

Australians - Where are you all????

My sussex hens have 8 x nesting boxes, but all 7 hens choose to lay in the one box. You should hear the protests from those waiting in line. Much louder and more annoying than any roosters crow

Hi Sarah, I have fertile eggs that I post all round Australia if you don't have any luck. I have pure white, partridge , blue partridge and red blue. They are dear little things, but do succumb to the elements. We use to live at floreat park, and the nights can still get very crisp. Good luck...

Australians - Where are you all????

Hey dirtgirl, I too have taken in ex battery hens, poor things didn't know what to do when I first free ranged them. Down to the last one now, 'old red' has to be 6 years old, still lays occasionally. I think the world would be a better place if we took in a couple of these poor creatures, and...

I too tried the ice cubes in the water. It was very hot ,so I spent a lot of time refreshing their water. The ice helped to cool it down, and the more inquisitive hens had to investigate, and while they were there they were drinking. So if you've got an ice maker in your fridge, put it to good...

Australians - Where are you all????

Yes, my Hercules ( buff) is huge, but very docile, unfortunately Charlie ( GLW) just wouldn't leave him alone. We lived in Sydney for 15 years because that's where the work was, but we did the sea change thing 13 years ago. Moved to Tassie , bought a 165 year old house on the beautiful huon...

Australians - Where are you all????

Hey, Allicoop I have 50 acres but it s very hard to keep the Roos from hurting each other. My buff sussex. Roo spurred my gold laced Wyandotte in the hock. He's been on antibiotics for 12 days, but alas he died this morning. The girls will miss him. On a brighter note, I have 3 cute little...

Australians - Where are you all????

Hey we're all here! I'm in the huon valley Tasmania. I lost one of my silver laced Wyandotte chicks in the heat. Found it more effective to hose the tops of the trees they were huddled under and just let it trickle down on them. Pity the poor buggers caught up in the bush fires .
