    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Our Sebright Trouble turned 5 years old this week. She's still the boss queen over all the other LF birds. Normally, she's broody or already has chicks on her birthday, but for some reason has not gone broody yet. She's laying daily, so I expect her broody switch is about to be flipped.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Another 100% hatch (from all the eggs that made to lockdown. I did have some "clears" and 1 quitter during the 1st week.) Throughout the day, the chicks were gradually moved to mama sebright. They've all been accepted and are doing well.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Our tough Sebright (named Trouble) turned 4 years old today. She's been broody and sitting on decorative rock eggs for a couple weeks. I slipped 2 pipped eggs under her this afternoon. One has already hatched, and I'll be gradually loading her up with incubator chicks tomorrow. "Happy Hatch...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Very nice! We only have the one Sebright: "Trouble." As her name implies, she's plenty for us. They are a fun little breed & so striking. Trouble goes broody a couple times a year but her eggs are never fertile. The rooster she lives with is too big - about 5xs her size! Our daughter tried...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

:hugs So sorry for your loss. He sounded like a great little rooster. My female serama is pretty fierce. She bosses & bullies the giant orpingtons and lives in the main coop with all the LF chickens. She's very vocal as well. She jumps on my arm for treats but hates to be held and...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

I read that Sebrights rarely go broody..... but my Sebright (Trouble) can't read. I think she started laying at 5-6 mo. It was winter. She 1st went broody when it warmed up in spring, again in late summer, then again the following March, again in mid June, and she's even thinking about it...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Here's mine at 6 weeks. She had zero comb for a few months (not just weeks).

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Could be. My female had no comb at that age. It didn''t have any color until she neared laying her 1st egg.

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

I heard Sebrights are difficult to breed. Not sure why. Mine likes to go broody. Some books state that Sebrights rarely go broody. Birds can't read, so our little Sebright hen is quite a fierce & persistent mama. We also only have one Sebright, "Trouble". She thinks she's queen of the...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Congrats on getting all the extras! Hope you have a good hatch. Shipped eggs are a funny thing. You may get good results, but you may also get ZERO. That happened twice to us. Our best hatch of shipped eggs was 75%, but anything around 50% is considered good. Backyard & local eggs usually...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Speaking of Trouble, yesterday I brought my camera out to take some flock pics. I got this interesting pic just as Trouble took to the air. It looks like she's in a strange chicken burlesque show. Here are some of Trouble's flockmates: my giant English orp hens (These were both...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

I've heard that Sebrights are tough to breed. Not sure if its because of their feisty attitudes, fertility issues, or difficult incubation. They have a lot of attitude for such little chickens. They are excellent flyers too. We hatched our Sebright (2 Sebright eggs were thrown in with our...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Well, thank you. Trouble "thinks" she's famous & the queen hen of the coop. All visitors come here to see HER & bring her treats. Even some of the neighbor stop by, call her by name, & hold out their arm to allow her to land & take a special treat. Nope. She's not spoiled at all...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

Here's Trouble coming in for a landing! I took this pic when we had a nice spring 60'F day in January. (It's back down to 20'F now. ) Trouble is our only Sebright & the only tiny bantam in a sea of giant Orpingtons. She makes up for her size with noise, speed, & agility. Some of you may...

    Chicken Breed Focus - Sebright

I don't have a roo, but my female is more vocal than my other hens. She believes she's the queen & makes a ruckus if another hen offends her in some way. Her egg song is also higher pitched. Not sure if it's all Sebrights or just her. My flock is pretty quiet, so a little noise from one...

a pretty one... Sorry, I'm no help. I don't see anything resembling a Sebright in his mix.
