I don't know about transmission with birds, but there was definitely transmission from the school to my youngest kiddo to me... She was sick for a week and a half, and I am 5 days into it and only getting worse. I think it's the actual flu as opposed to a cold --- news reports say we are having...

And I feel for you -- we have the flu here too, and it's hard to do anything except lie down, cough and feel wretched.

You can't just swap in Eprinex -- if it won't kill the worms the first time, it won't kill those worms the second time either. The second worming it to break the cycle and catch the worms that hatch from the eggs left behind by the adults that you killed with the first round. So if you switch...

Having a good office staff helps many vets deal with upset clients. Dealing with abused animals (or children) is emotionally taxing. Another difficult one is when someone deliberately chooses to keep a vicious animal (one form of animal abuse is deliberately creating a vicious animal) and then...

@casportpony is always full of good advice I may be an old fogey but I am thrilled with technological developments of googling for information, google maps, google translate and youtube for videos on how to fix stuff. I already knew how to fix a lot of things, but you can have a totally...

Young man, we can't tell you, and if we could, it would get covered up with asterisks by the text editor :-D But what he means is they made the statement to protect themselves from lawsuits...

Well, based on anecdotal reports here on BYC, the pea people haven't experienced it much. No suggestion that it's permanent, either. So if there are a few frizzled feathers, they will be replaced next molt anyway. Not something that would worry me too much compared to the parasite issue which...

I think the answer is "no" but my brain is seizing up from too much trying to remember on top of having something of a day here. Kathy probably knows without even blinking an eye, lol. I can reread old posts later tonight if need be...

Well, the exact facts and triggers may vary, but there is a remarkable similarity in the progression of these scenarios to the point of being pretty predictable. Darn it.

People get agitated when (1) they don't understand how a process works, (2) they don't like the answer, and of course, (3) when they feel nervous, insecure or out of control. Since hardly anyone can understand, much less control the US Postal Service, there's lots of opportunity for people to...

I thought Zaz's photo essay was quite stellar here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1037496/anabels-green-eyed-white My personal favorite was the watermelon-juiced pea, but maybe that's 'cause I've raised kids who similarly immersed themselves in watermelon juice. They also completely...

Do you mean the horse paste one that goes "It's not mixed evenly so with a small amount, your bird won't get the right dose?'' Or the one about horse wormer not being good or appropriate for peas, (regardless of whether it's the exact same meds, lol)? And that "it's bad for birds?" Or...

Well, sure... but folks don't always agree who's right and who's wrong. Lots of opinions, and sometimes facts aren't clear, medicine is an art, they say, and then recommendations change over time. It''s just not that easy. Many different practices, many different practitioners. Lots of...

Sadly, no. Wouldn't that be convenient? That 3 ml per gallon info is out of date and not effective. @casportpony can give you more details if you like.

All of it needs to go into the birds, so unless they drink ALL the water, they won't get enough. That's why the mash thing works, it all goes into the birds...

@dheltzel I found it, it's in post #88, I cut out everything except the medicated feed numbers. It's about one-tenth of a one pound bag, 1.76 ounces by WEIGHT to get the right dose (assuming your bird needs 250 mg)

We're both lazy! Kathy catches each bird and individually puts it down their throats So we managed the feeding frenzy by scattering feed first (when they were hungry), and using untreated "diversion" bread to tease the other birds away so we could work with one or two birds at a time. Then...
