    Gander refusing to eat

https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/a-gander-with-mysterious-chronic-illness.1407933/ I posted an update here because I’m not sure if this is related or new.

    Gander refusing to eat

Parsnip was seen by his vet on Thursday, she tested him for zinc and lead, “those haven’t come back yet but I’m 99% positive he’ll come back positive for zinc.” She sent blood in for another CBC also. That came in yesterday, completly normal. White and red blood cell count are normal, normal...

    Gander refusing to eat

Last night I noticed him limping, today he isn’t but is favoring a leg. His droppings from last night looked normal but today his urates are green. I’ve been trying to get him to a vet for weeks but I’m currently without a car or phone of my own and my isolationist loon parents that I’m...

    Gander refusing to eat

Researching gout makes me heavily doubt that’s what’s causing Parsnip’s foot discomfort, now I think it may be leg stiffness /weakness from the zinc.

Gout occurs when the kidneys can’t get rid of excesses in the bloodstream, it can cause crystals to form in the organs or joints or both, which cause damage and inflammation, it’s just a hunch of mine but I think that may be what Parsnip was dealing with, zinc toxicity also causes muscle...

    Gander refusing to eat

No wounds on his feet, he’s still getting his vitamins periodically. Today he’s feeling fairly good, he’s eaten a lot of mash and grass on his own and so far it’s day 3 that his feet seem like they aren’t hurting as much. I compiled a timeline from notes I’ve been keeping of his health since...

    Gander refusing to eat

He was having good days where he felt good and would eat a little and bad days when he wouldn’t hardly eat at all and he would stand with his feet spread apart and constantly shift his weight back and forth from foot to foot so I think he had pain in his feet or joints. In the past I’ve seen...

    Gander refusing to eat

Yes they should eat everyday, sometimes females go off their food while nesting though. I hand feed Parsnip greens everyday, romaine lettuce, often wrapped around sliced up broccoli sprouts and/or carrot bits. He also gets slices of tomato and strawberry. I’ve started hand feeding him grass...

    Gander refusing to eat

I couldn’t find the tag, it must have gotten torn off, I found one with December as it’s mill date, but I don’t know which bag that may have come from and when.

I can’t find where it lists the mill date on the nutrena bag.

    Gander refusing to eat

They’re only around the girls part of the day, the issue I’m having currently with Leo and Parsnip is that Leo’s trying to mount Parsnip, Parsnip scolds him and then sometimes a fight starts. They’ll mellow back down eventually, I can’t wait for that to settle down. I’ll try what you suggested...

    Gander refusing to eat

Sometimes he gets iceberg lettuce, but other than grapes and blueberries nothing goes down the hatch willingly except grapes and blueberries. I am hand feeding him Romain, cut up broccoli sprouts, slices of tomato, strawberry, sometimes slices of carrot, and even grass. @MGG I tried alfalfa...

    Gander refusing to eat

@DiYMama540 I suppose he’s protective of Leo and vice versa. I’ve noticed that Leo has gone a bit off his food too, but he’ll still eat the mash now and then. Parsnip won’t touch a thing besides his treats. I actually hope I’m just overreacting personally. With everything else he has going on...

    Gander refusing to eat

Parsnips recent droppings the last few days, he eats a lot of blueberries hence the color. The second dropping was a big one, about 4 and a half inches long

    Gander refusing to eat

My gander Parsnip hasn’t willingly eaten anything besides his favorite treats (blueberries, grapes) in the last two weeks. His digestion has been slow so I know he was constipated though I didn’t know if it was because of a partial blockage, inflammation, or another issue. The last few days he’s...
