Here is the link to the thread i made about the second egg she attacked. If anyone knows what happened, let me know. I didn't get any posts in the hatching section. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/newestpost/1089504 =====================================================

Welp, it took a long time, but the eggs hatched. She laid 6 eggs. The first one didn't make it. She dumped it into the pond about 2 weeks later. I noticed when i was draining the pond, as i do every Sunday. She later took another egg out and attacked it on the food tray on March 5 or 6 at...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

Welp, it's a been a long time, but here is an update on my 2 ducks. Last year she laid one egg and the weather went below freezing that night and it was in the 30s and 40s for about a week after that. She never sat on the egg, so i eventually just threw it out after about 2 or 3 weeks...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

Sorry, Ever since the forum upgrade, I haven't ever logged in until now. No, I haven't seen them mate, so i don't think they will be having any baby ducks. They are about 2.5 years old now. A little sad, but in a way i am a bit relieved, because i don't have to worry about getting rid of the...

Been a while since i posted anything in here, so i will update this with 2 little videos that i posted in another thread about beak clicking and head bobbing: Video 1 Video 2 Note: you will need the DivX codec to view them, because i converted them from their original MOV format to save...

I had to do some maintenance to the aviary a few weeks ago, so i had the ducks inside for about a week. It's good to know that now i can move them inside when a hurricane comes! Amazingly, they didn't get out. I think the space between the bars are just a bit too small for them.

I meant to post this door picture in my thread, but at the time, I just posted it in a different thread for KansasKid and figured it was too soon to crosspost it. Also, it was somewhere between 29- 32 degrees 2 days ago (below freezing for the first time his year) and i didn't even realize...

Quote: Yeap. I think they are out now. Last time i checked for someone, they had a female left. Also, I know it's a bit late, but I will take a pic of my aviary door tomorrow, so you can see the bolts and stuff i used on it.

It's actually real duck food. It's the Mazuri maintenance. Fortunately, it's pretty small. I was afraid it would be too big for them. The food pieces are just a few times bigger than the little goldfish treats i give them. Plus, it floats and it turns into something that looks like coco...

Here's a few pictures i took today. I took a video of them and caught them Diving in the pond for the very first time. In the first few pics, you can see a couple of oat sprouts against the wall in the back and between the monkey grass and toadstool.

I was cleaning out the pond as i usually do every weekend and as i was draining the last bit of water out, the ducks were very much like the second pic above where one was on the lava rock and the other was in the bird bath. The one in the bird bath made a sound. Can't really describe it other...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

Just a small update: I was able to pet one the other week. It was night time and i usually go in late at night while they are resting or sleeping in the pond, so i can drop about 4-6 fish pellets in their pond for them to eat. My wife was walking the dog and had the ducks' attention and they...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

Time for a few picture updates: I took these 2 pics of them a few weeks ago: I repainted the outside of the aviary pretty much all over, because I had re-caulked a lot of the seams after i put on the outer thin boards to cover the seams of the mesh. Here is a top view: Here was a...

Quote: I will try to take a picture of it when i get a chance. Our house is raised and set on pier and beam as well as having a cement foundation. We have enough space to crawl under the house, well i can crouch and move around under there. there is about 3 feet to work with under the house...

Ok, I put in a pump, filter, and hippo spitter. The filter is under the house since it's kind of big. I just ran the water hoses underneath the sight barrier in probably the only spot that is possible to put them through. Also, here is my feeding setup, to minimize food getting tossed all...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

ok maybe a tablespoon isn't enough! I went to get the food dish and replace the water dish with a new one for them this morning and the food bowl was completely empty! Will they stop eating when they have had enough or will they just eat everything i put out there? I have been putting food...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

They are finally eating regularly. I think the problem was 2 things: they were still getting adjusted to the aviary and ANTS! I dug up a thread or 2 on ants using the search button and some people mentioned putting the food dish in a larger dish and fill up the larger dish with water to keep...

    Hottentot and Ringed Teal Ducks

I got back from the in-town feed store and they had 2 bags of food grade DE. I bought the small bag for now. They sell bales of Hay and Alfalfa. I thought i read somewhere on here that straw is preferred over both, but that hay is preferred over Alfalfa. Maybe because alfalfa has a lot more...
