Yeah, rules are rules after all and we can’t do much besides bringing up a possible issue and hoping the website worker people see the possible issue. Fair isn’t a real determination of worth, as everyone has different opinions on things. I was a bit worried about starting this thread, as I know...
That is one of the main reasons why i brought up the issue(?). It seems a bit wrong for the community to be held under these rules about crediting but the website in a whole doesn’t.
But again, rules are rules and if our definition of ‘fair’ doesn’t match up with the website’s, that just stinks.
And the rules aren’t, or at least the last time I checked, very clear on what the images are used for. You could think it would only be used to educate, while it was being used for other things like on the homepage. It also doesn’t say that you don’t get credit for the picture if they use it, so...
Your not weird, I read the rules too. I personally don’t care too much, but I know some people can get really upset if they don’t read the rules and suddenly they end up in a bad situation.
The roleplay community on here has had some run ins with copyright issues in the past, so I am also...
I don’t think most people even know that BYC uses the pictures from the community, so they might not know to do it. BYC wouldn’t have to tell people necessarily, just like the community can remind people every so often.
I was thinking maybe just telling people to watermark their images when they post them if they want credit if they are ever used for the website.
It would make sure they got proper credit for images they created, and BYC wouldn’t actually have to change to accommodate it. Watermarks aren’t hard...
Thank you @Nifty-Chicken, that clarifies things a lot.
I live by a personal belief that if you make something, you deserve credit for making it, and if you used something made by someone else it’s only right to give them credit. Too much attribution is never a bad thing, as people make...
Yes, I do, but I still think it would be more respectful to the creators of the images if BYC if we gave the original creators credit for their work. It says nowhere in the rules that BYC doesn’t need to cite its sources when using images.
It says, and I quote, ‘ You retain copyright over the...
Does BYC get the original posters permission to use the photo, or no? I would think that using someone’s picture is the same wherever you find it, whether it be on a website or on google images.
I think it is a bit wrong to be able to use someone’s picture for a website without their permission...
Thanks @Nifty-Chicken for answering it. I think it would be an important thing to add in the future, as here on this site we are very against using copyrighted material without the permission of the original creator and not crediting the source.
On the threads pictured on the front page, there are pictures. I’ve noticed they are very rarely credited, so the original source isn’t mentioned. I think it seems a little like stealing a picture, even though BYC isn’t claiming it as it’s own. Is there a way so in the future the pictures are...
