Given the slow growth at the beginning and the huddling under the heat lamp during the first week (or 2) I'm wondering if it would make sense to either:
- start the birds on dry crumble with ACV in the water OR
- give them a choice of dry or fermented for the first week (or 2)

In the FF thread someone noticed their chicks going under the heat lamp after eating FF so maybe the FF does result in higher heat requirement.
Not sure about the water theory. When I switched my meaties to FF, the water that did not go into the waterer was going into the feed - but I did not...

My meaties were hesitant (at first) to eat the FF but they were already used to dry feed. I would not have expected the same from day-old chicks getting their first meal. On my next batch maybe I'll sprinkle dry over top the FF to get them started...
