Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

I wondered about that, but their food dishes still have plenty of food in them in the morning, and half of them are still on the roosting boards. Maybe I can drop the wattage little by little then eliminate it completely?

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

If you leave them out till after dark with the light on in the coop,I bet they will go in on their own. They will hate it if you turn the light out after they are in,but I THINK they will get used to it. I am going to leave a 20-25 watt light on at night all the time for ours. JSC's Hubby

Ok,,,,,Success! They finally all went in on their own tonight! The thing I tried different was turning the light on in the coop before it got dark. Chickens definitely hate the dark. JSC's Hubby

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

This what I ended up doing with the long steep ramp board, I was hoping they would squat on it when it got dark and then see their coop all warm and nice inside and go in................................................. not! They still love it though. JSC's Hubby

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

It's been a week and a half now and still have to go out at night and put them all back in the coop. I think I need an old chicken to come in and tell them what they are suppose to do! They all huddle up together in a corner in the run and go to sleep. When I pick them up to put them in the...

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

Ok,every night this week,I have waited till 10 o'clock at night and have gone out to the run. They are always huddled up in a group on the ground and I have to put each one back in the coop and shut them up. I think I am going to put a roosting board about 12 inches off the floor in the coop...

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain : The ramp is a little bit too steep for them, and slippery, I believe. I would suggest either making it longer so the angle isn't so steep, or putting some strips of wood on there horizontally for footing. Most likely they'll try to fly up or down, and could get hurt...

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

OK,they have been in the run now twice after being "cooped" up in their coop for over a week. Both times I had to pick them up and put them back through the pop door for the night. They are all huddling in the corner of the run and bedding down for the night. Are they too young still? (8-9...

Is it natural nature for the chickens to come into the coop at night?

Do they naturally want to come in from the run at dark or do you have to "train" them by feeding them in the coop at that time? Our 8 and 9 week olds have been in their new coop for almost a week now but the run will be done in a day or two if the weather holds up.
