Look at the saddle feathers. If they're pointed, they're male. That's what I've had to go on

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Yep. I was utterly convinced both times I got chicks I had at least 1 male. No males ended up developing

Theu)y get a decent size. I have 5 or 6 (one remains an inigma no mater how i look). Two of my pullets thid year had giant legs but are still girls. They dont get too big to be sustainable though, so don't worry. Mine are flighty, but thats just how all my birds are, so cant say for certain...

I would say so based on current information

MI were kinda early. Not nearly as old as like Easter eggers, but not as early as hybrid layers

Thats kinda how my Big Boy is. Can I see your male to see if he looks anything like mine? Still trying to figure if mine is a onyx or not

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Can I see a picture? I have a male that I'm trying to figure out what he is. I thought the group was mystics cause 2 of the pullets have extra toes, but he looks nothing like the picture in the website

I asked Hoover's and they assured me that it was certain that females would not have coloring

My two that I know are onyx are okay. They were pretty friendly as young birds, but now that they're in the adult coop they've lost a lot of that.

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Did anyone get in their onyx orders a white skinned, normal toed chick? I'm still debating on two chicks out if the 4 I grabbed last minth. Two are white skinned and one has an extra toe and one doesn't

If they're what I have, they're very nice mixes. They're giants, no feathered feet and rather friendly in that humans are scary phase. I've got pictures of my four on my chick thread. My hands are rather small for my age, but I have to use 2 to keep them somewhat secured

My mystery chicks (thinking they're onyxs) are big growers too. Giants compared to standards the same age

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

If they came from tsc, they're mystic onyx because they get birds from Hoover's.

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Yeah, but all your 5 toes ones, are they on both feet or just one foot?

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Did anyone here have ones that had clean legs and an extra toe on just one foot? Got mystery babies yesterday and trying to figure out what they are

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Well yeah, they're a hatchery mix, not a rare landrace. They're not going to be able to charge very much for them if they want to sell more than a few dozen

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

They're really not similar apart that the females are black and have dark skin. Look like different stance, possible crests and possibly different combs.

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

Okay, thanks. I'm always wary of new varieties when it comes to male temperments

    Hoover’s Mystic Onyx

I was considering them more because their meat and skin should be dark.

Does anyone have problems with the males? I'm torn between getting some or not (was definately before I found out only males get color)
