Thanks for all the help and concern. I still think about her and wonder what I could have done. My remaining four hens now seem to not want to free range as much. Chubby was the dominant hen.
I didn't know that, I simply popped it with an 18 AWG needle and pushed out the liquid. I was afraid to make a big cut that wouldn't stop bleeding but maybe I need to try that next.
Thanks
Looks like it did before. I'll keep with the penny g for four days but I'm losing hope for a recovery. Other than the HUGE lump she looks great! Bright eyes, moving around, eating and drinking... Well she is starting to molt as well so feathers are getting sparse.
Strange.
So surgery reduced the lump to about half the previous size, she did really well, I mean she kinda just laid her head down while I punctured and drained it. The remaining lump seems to be a spongy, maybe inflamed mass or cycst. I drained mainly clear liquid with some blood, no puss...
Thanks for the support. Papa is coming over and we will try to lance again with bigger needle. I have Penny G and Purple coat to treat hopefully she get looking better. She is eating and drinking fine, she may even be laying. I got 4 more eggs today but they will go back to them as feed...
Does anyone know if Infectious Coryza causes swelling on both sides of the face or could this be Infectious Coryza with swelling on one side only?
I don't see any eye problems, no sneezing, but she does wheeze when I handle her to apply medicine. Diagnosis makes a big impact to the treatment...
scratch'n'peck, thanks for keeping in touch. I dont think she is much better though, she is still lethargic and for the first time did not climb into the roost, she is in the shavings on the floor. I've gone to check on her three times already tonight, my wife thinks I'm nuts but she is a good...

I would lance it. If it's an abscess it will only help. If it's a mass she won't likely live too much longer if it's gotten to the point of causing her not to eat. It would be very likely that it is an abscess however, a year is much too long Sorry for your gal.
Yes a year too long...
She was laying when I got her, I'm guessing she might be 1.5 to 2 years. She looks to be just now molting. She looked so bad I couldn't wait anymore so my farther in law helped me lance it with a needle. A BUNCH of clear fluid (STINKY) squirted out with some on me. We treated with rubbing...
Thanks scratch'n'peck. I think the vet would be very expensive but I'll call them is she makes it another day. I'm gonna check the feed store for the penicillin G. I haven't heard of that, I've seen tetracycline and something else in post. SHe wont leave the coop now and one of the other...
I looked for information and haven't been able to see any answers for a large lump on a hens face. She has had it almost a year now and it has got very large and she is now pretty lethargic, she does move but nothing like she use to. Seems like most posted I have read say its an infection or a...
