Even Walmart sells lard.......it doesn't have to be refridgerated. It doesn't have as long a shelf life as Crisco, but that's because it's the real thing, not fake fat.

Lard is what they used before Crisco came along so I bet it would be fine........I just prefer to use butter in my cookies.

I'd substitute butter instead. I use lard in my pie crusts but haven't used it in cookies.
