are you going to butcher your own or pay someone? I pay, germain did her own until last month when I talked her into paying . . . pretty good idea she will be sticking with that now . . . how about you are you a real mountain woman?
lol CX sleep with their head in the feeder. I removed it. Well actually to be honest what I did with my CX was feed them directly on the ground. (they were just dumping the feeders anyway) I felt it encouraged them a bit to move and forage naturally. I gave them their last feeding at around...
you only have feed available during daylight hours. at night you take it away and turn out the lights so they go to sleep . . . and wake up STARVING! LOL don't get in the way of that feeder! I did mine that way from one week forward and had zero issues with legs or hearts.
I put mine outside at one week, with no light, and night temps in the 50's. I only lost four the whole time . . . you're right THEY ARE GROSS! LOL! ! !
de nada! I'm excited for you, while I am not going to do the CX again, my experience was a good one and I hope yours will be too. I'm looking for to hearing how the birds (and you) handle the heat - keep us posted.
my 25 drank 5 GALLONS A DAY!!!
mine were 8 weeks, they all weighed right at 5 lbs carcass weight.
Mine were more active than I expected (especially when they saw me coming with the feed bucket) up until the last two weeks, then they pretty much laid around all day (until they saw me coming with...
I fed mine Purina medicated chick starter for about two weeks then Purina flock raiser. They have done extremely well, good growth, no issues. For treats they (25) get daily 2/3 cup each of corn, barley, BOSS & hard red wheat. Not enough to really affect the protien levels but enough to...
when they're little they're cornish game hens, then fryers(6 weeksish), then roasters(8-10 weeksish). Then stew birds, but it's hard to get these guys to live long enough to be stew birds. Most consider after 6 mo a stew bird.
this is just how I learned it, there could be some official numbers...
it seems a lot of hatcheries put their own little twist on the name, but most of the eggs come from one of just a few places. after reading a lot on here from some really knowledgable folks I have come to the conclusion that the cheapest is usally the way they go. I got mine from a local...
hey kathy I woke up thinking that I told you my tractor was 10 X 10, but it's not it's 10 X 7 (took 10 pieces of 1", 10' pvc to make) and holds 25 birds very comfortably. I move it by myself with no wheels with no trouble.
