BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

I'm not an expert, but I would say the top photo is splash and I'm about 70% sure it's a cockerel, the bottom is blue and I'm quite sure it's a pullet.

Cockerels will try their luck long before pullets will lay eggs. I'm not sure why, but it seems to be how roosters work. Most pullets will lay around 20 weeks old, so you likely only have to wait another 8-12 weeks longer. Her comb and wattles will be large, and as bright red as a Christmas...

She might be broody. Check tonight and tomorrow morning to see if she doesn't go up to roost, but stays all night in the nest box. They usually only come off the nest very briefly to eat, drink, and poop, once a day. If she seems serious about really doing it, choose about 6 or so of the...

BLUE ISBARS - Pictures and discussion

Usually around four or five weeks the males will be clearly noticeable, but If you post some pictures now we'd all love to try and guess.

Yes, my single comb boys make themselves known pretty early. Are they cuckoo Marans? If they are, any solid color rooster over a barred or cuckoo hen will yield a sexlink, the male chicks will all have a white head spot. I made three sexlinks for the Easter hatch a long and they all turned out...

What color eggs does your hen lay? If they are dark brown, her offspring will likely lay eggs in a shade of brown, maybe with a hint of Olive color. I did not make this chart, but I found it very useful and educational...

For the experienced incubators, I'm hearing different humidity levels during incubation? I have a Brinsea, and the directions that came with it list 30 to 40 percent during the first part, and then 60 percent at lockdown. But then they go on to say that recent experiments find higher humidity...

Yay! I'm so happy for you, That's a perfect ratio. I'm going to have to learn how to do vent sexing once and for all ;)

It's very unreliable, because Isbars were not fully "completed" as an auto sexing breed, but they sometimes can still exhibit those signs, supposedly. Far left chick has a pale patch of down on its head. (But some females can too, so it's a guess) My big dream would be to work with the breed on...

Thanks for the photo! So cute! Time for gender guesses. The one to the far left might be male, my guess is the other three are female. A month or so and you'll know for sure. Congratulations :dance

For a long time I've admired isbars. Would anyone near Maine or New Hampshire be willing to sell me some Isbar eggs? I would be looking to purchase in early Spring. Or, i could have them shipped if thats an option. How likely is it that shipping long distance would kill the embryos?
