  1. Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay

    Meatie Experiment: FF 'vs' Crumbles

Are you weighing your feed or just using volumetric measurements? Is all the feed from the same batch/lot?
  2. Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay

    Meatie Experiment: FF 'vs' Crumbles

Here is a scenario that I see at times. Animals are slaughtered at the same age. Group 1 has a better feed conversion, and leaner carcasses than Group 2. However, the birds from Group 1 are 15% lighter than Group 2. Without looking at the entire database you can not determine which is "best".
  3. Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay

    Meatie Experiment: FF 'vs' Crumbles

When is the end of this experiment? Does your protocol call for the birds to be slaughtered at the same age or the same weight? This is an item that researchers struggle with regularly. In some cases the slaughter end can skew the results of the experiment substantially. Jim
  4. Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay

    Meatie Experiment: FF 'vs' Crumbles

I am intrigued by the fermentation. How do you know there is fermantation occuring rather than simply soaking the feed?
  5. Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay

    Meatie Experiment: FF 'vs' Crumbles

Do not forget that consumption of the fermented feed may limit dry matter intake because of the water content of the feed. This might be the reason for the chicks appearing chilled. Jim
