    One of my chickens, Yuki, an EE, started laying in the forest. Then all the eggs went missing. Found a nice stash of month old rotten eggs. :) Now I try to free range them after 12:00, because most of them lay before then. Though they have a huge run for 6 chickens (750sqft!)

    A broody hen will be laying somewhere (mist likely in a nesting box) and will be puffed up. They will also make clucking sounds, especially if you try to move them or when you open the nesting box lid. They will often be laying on an egg for a extended period of time-sometimes even weeks...

    Sometimes if there is a predator attack, my chickens stop laying for a little bit. Not just the ones who were attacked, the whole flock. So I would assume, yes, they can get scared out of laying, but I think it’s more like a traumatic experience that really does it.

    Could they be molting? Maybe something scared them (like they saw a hawk or something?) and they were shocked and stopped producing. I’m not really sure though.
