Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

This time - with eggs with complete air cells - I have had them on their sides in an RCOM20 for the first 16 days or so then transferred them to the Octagon 20 when it became available and put them upright for the last two days rocking then three days of non-rocking. They are supposed to be...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

Lying them on their sides to roll, I found that they only developed about half way and then stopped and died. This last lot were kept upright in egg boxes (cartons) from day 1 and the movement was provided by the rocking motion of the Octagon 20. Some incubators rock the eggs slowly back and...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

Thanks to this thread, I have just hatched 4/5 fertile eggs with broken air cells! I have lost loads of posted eggs this year to this problem, but this time I didn't wash the eggs so I wouldn't disrupt the insides further, put them straight in the Octagon 20 which rocks the eggs rather than...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

I just tried some with detached air cells but started them off on their sides. They started to develop (to the spidery stage) but then died. I think if you are going to give it a go you'd probably better prop them up from day one, which I didn't!

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

In reply to Ryple: There should be no confusion about the regime for humidity, and the best thing to do is to monitor the development of the air cell every few days. When they are grown, the air cell should fill nearly one third of the egg, I have read. I don't understand the wet bulb thing...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

Anyway Ryple, unless I've become too confused with the American/English date thing, I make it that you are due to hatch your silkie ducks Friday/Saturday . . . . you'll HAVE TO let us all know when they are hatching and how it is all going for you. I'm nearly as excited about your ducks as I am...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

Thanks for your reply. I was intending to put the damaged ones upright for the last three days, but can't do it before then because I would need to turn them manually and I have to go to work. The RCOM20 has a plate which moves under eggs laid on their sides to turn them. It's quite hard to find...

Is it possible to hatch from egg with broken aircell? UPDATE

I'm desparate to hear the end of these hatching tales! I was lucky to source some Croad Langshan eggs by post last week and some of the air cells are broken. I found this post on google and it has given me some hope of hatching these precious babies. My incubator is an RCOM20, so they are lying...
