I learned the refrigeration method from an actual scientific study, & have been using it since. According to the study, the female chicks are genetically Male, & when bred to a rooster they will produce only males. I think the eggs were only refrigerated for a few days before incubation though.

Who said we're related to birds? Us humans, & birds took different evolutionary routes. We evolved from Therapsids, which weren't quite mammals, nor reptiles. Birds evolved from dinosaurs, or bird like dinosaurs.

Refrigeration is supposed to change the sex of male chicks. Only chicks that I've had die mostly are from shipped eggs, or from incubation error from a faulty incubator.

I've only had 4 deaths, 1 due suffocation, 2 due to shrink wrapping, 1 unknown.

Their ancestors were the dinosaurs, which were also warm blooded reptiles. There's also several similarities birds share with reptiles, like Scales(Feathers are modified Scales), Egg laying, etc.

Biologists, & Zoologists are starting to reclassify Birds as reptiles. This is still controversial to some. Also an interesting thing I learned while reading/watching a video on this subject is that not all reptiles are Ecotherms, or you could say not all are cold blooded.

Sounds good. I've been doing this method for years. This year, the eggs I've hatched weren't refrigerated, so I got more boys then I ever had since the Straight Run chicks from TSC several years ago.

I either warm them up for about 30mins, or stick them right in the incubator, or under a broody hen without warm up time.

I believe about 45°F, the normal range.

Also, the refrigerated eggs I hatch are between 2-3 weeks old most of the time. Sometimes they aren't refrigerated that long, occasionally no more then 7 days at least.

Same. Majority of the eggs I hatch are refrigerated. I only get 1-2 males out of refrigerated eggs. Definitely lessens the numbers of Male chicks, just doesn't eliminate the chance of not getting any male chicks.
