The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Updated pics of Hedwig He really does! Still no crowing but my boy is a beauty. I can't believe how long the sickle feathers are taking 😂

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Lol.. we're the minority but team pullet it is! SHE'S 😂 not much larger than the other 8 (3 Speckled Sussex, 2 Silkie, 2 other EE and my what I told was a green egger but is apparently a Dark Brahma pullet) that were all acquired within a few days of each other. The DB is a bit taller but it's...

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

I got it on 3/20 and it was only a few days old.. fluffy baby pic, hence the name Hedwig 😉

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Well I needed some colorful roos so I guess Hedwig will fit the bill😂 nearly every chick I just hatched out was black (thanks Australorp x2 and FBCM boys!)

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

What's typical EE cockerel development? Never had one so this is intriguing. Most of my cockerals I can sex relatively young.

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Thanks for the explanation. I've only had EE pullets so I haven't seen an EE cockerel develop. Once Hedwig grows up I'll post new pics.

    Fair enough! Beautiful either way.

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

I see no male saddle feathers, no red comb, no sickle feathers and not very pointed hackle feathers.. why do you think cockeral? Genuinely curious.

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Around 9 weeks old now. Definitely thinking pullet. I added recent pictures.

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Here's Hedwig now! Born around March 15th so close to 9 weeks old. Palest of pink/practically flesh colored comb and no thin saddle feathers.

    Your birds are beautiful 😍

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

I think it's more the red coloring popping up as they get older. I've definitely seen red EE pullets but the replies here are all saying the more red, the more likely they're cockerals. All of my other girls have been blue or black babies (I'm a sucker for those Grey fluffy babies) and they...

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

She's adorable! Love those EE 'tude looks! I'll try to find your post to see what she looked like as a teenager 😉

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

True, but I have seen red colored pullets/hens. I appreciate your feedback! Time shall tell what Hedwig is😉

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

When I first saw the mahogany pop I was like ohhhnooo.. but it's not on it's shoulders and pretty evenly distributed. If it is a cockeral, he'll make beautiful babies! In the read this post, there's an EE hen that looks super similar to Hedwig's coloring so I'm still 🤞

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

I realllly hope so! I know that reddish color can sometimes indicate cockeral but it's not on its hackle or shoulders so I keep hoping it's just a very colorful pullet🤞

The dreaded question.. sex this please!

Helllllo! I'm typically pretty good at sexing but I'm at a loss with this now 7 week old Easter Egger. Of course it's my favorite so it will inevitably be a cockeral right?🤣 I don't see any saddle feathers and those penciled hackle are always harder for me. So I guess it's the comb that I need...
