Guess mine know they are also a "meat" bird...but at ten weeks, sort of on the scrawny side...always pointing out that the ROOSTER is much bigger....look at those drumsticks....
When do Barred Rock hens reach maturity? I've read they get up about six pounds, my ten week old hens aren't even much over a pound yet. The rooster is...but the hens seem on the skinny side. Thanks.
What made you decide to get this breed? I live in the "Banana Belt" of Paradise, CA. It can get a little warm up here in the summer, and get a dusting of snow in the winter. I wanted chickens that were hardy, and good sized, but they won't be served on a plate. Also, I was born in New England...
