    Duck attacked by a raccoon

That is great to hear he is doing better! One of my ducks I was tube feeding, I had been tube feeding her for about a week. We were exhausted from it, so we took a day off. Our duck finally realized that she was hungry and started eating again by the next day. So if he is not eating after a...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

Great job! Tube feeding is one of the more challenging things to do. No one on either side is usually happy about the experience, but it is worthwhile in the end.

I would stick with just the leaves.

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

That is great that they are helping! I completely understand the worry. It is nerve wracking the first time. No you want to start slow. You do 14ml per lb. His crop is going to need time to adjust having food in it again. You slowly increase the amount of food each day. If you want, you can do...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

Yeah. They are going to fight you and you just need to learn to restrain them well. So when I do it, I put their back towards me and straddle it a bit. That way I can hold it's neck and head against me. I hold on to the base of the beak and don't let go. I pry open their beak and put my thumb...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

If you weighed just him, it may not register the weight. Some don't go that low, which is why i hold the duck while weighing them. I have also found some of the digital scales vary depending on how you stand on them. I can lose or gain weight in seconds just but standing differently on the...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

It has definitely helped and is far better than nothing. It is just always hard to say how long they can last that way. Have you weighed him so you know how much to feed him? If not, I usually weigh myself. Then I weigh myself while holding the duck and then subtract the difference. I will...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

It is really hard to say for sure. You are getting close to 1 week essentially without food and ducks can potentially deteriorate quickly. While they hate tube feeding and it is stressful for both of you the first time, it is better than loosing your duck. I can say that from personal...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

It sounds like he is recouping well, but the fact that he is still not eating is does worry me. With how young he is and how important nutrients are to his growth, I would tube feed him. I would also assume he is not getting enough water either, since eating encourages a lot of their drinking...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

You can separate them but allow them to see each other if you are worried. They are very social and seeing their friend can be medicine all of its own. They are brooder mates, so it is less likely the other one will poke at him. It is still possible though. That is great that he is jumping around!

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

Understandable. If he is spending time indoors with his buddy, that should be enough. It sounds like he is well on the mend. Hopefully he will start eating soon. If his mood is improving there is a good chance he will start soon.

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

If he is moving around a lot I would try putting him outside with his buddies for a little bit. Spending time outside may encourage his appetite. Hopefully you can get him to eat on his own. If he is drinking fine, but not eating, then he might be able to go a bit longer without tube feeding...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

It is hard to see in the photo, but it does look like his adult feathers growing in. You might see a small delay in the growth due to him not eating and drinking for a few days. It takes a lot of protein to grow in feathers, plus healing his injuries.

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

That is great to hear that he is starting to perk up. Fresh air can definitely help them cheer up. Sorry, I didn't realize you were in Canada. Allbirdsproducts does say they ship internationally, but maybe they don't ship to Canada. A local feed store in your area may carry it. You could give...

Keep putting on the Neosporin without pain on the wounds. You can also put on some hydrocortisone (anti-itch cream), and it may help with any irritation. When they have eye irritation, they produce extra liquid from their tear ducts. It can get caked on their feathers near their eyes. I would...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

That is good that he is drinking more. I would keep him on the added electrolytes until he starts eating on his own. In order to absorb water, we need salts and sugars. They actually help draw water into the body. Since he is currently not eating much yet, those electrolytes will still be needed...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

If you have only done the eggs shells a few times, it should be perfectly fine. It is more consistent high levels of calcium that can be detrimental. Even female ducks can't have high levels of calcium till they start to lay eggs, which is around 28 weeks in Muscovy. His eye may be producing...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

If his wounds are not showing signs of pus or no signs of fever, he unlikely doesn't have a bacterial infection. You can still treat him with an antibiotic if you choose to. I personally would wait unless I saw another reason to, but caution can't hurt. While it is great that he ate 4ml of...

    Duck attacked by a raccoon

Him getting too dehydrated or potentially causing further throat injury. I don't know of a way to be certain. You may be able to look into his mouth and see a swollen throat and/or redness. I am guessing a vet would not be possible till Monday. But a vet could administer iv fluids. If he is...
