Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

I don't think so. They hang out in there during the day absolutely fine without any distress or drama. And they were doing this in their old coop as well, and it was an entirely different setup than what they have currently. I really do think it's happening because of the game birds are so...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

Well, I think my mother figured this out. This is the first time I have ever owned game birds mixed in with the regular layers. It is the game birds that are starting all the ruckus. They keep trying to get higher and higher, even when there is nowhere to go to. In the process they are...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

Ok seriously, I am about ready to cry. Last night was HORRIBLE. I mean absolutely horrible. It was fine around 3 - 4 p.m. They were happily hopping up and down, sitting on all 3 levels, taking naps, cheeping contentendly.... Then it started getting dark. You would think the world was...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

Oh yeah, tonight we are going to take that shelving unit down off the wall. That will eliminate any temptation to get on the shelves instead of the roost.

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

Ok, he just emailed me this picture. This is what he put together to see if they like this better! This is the old feed room for my horse barn. I took everything (well, almost, still working on it!) out and they moved into here. It has windows and solid walls and doors, so should be MUCH...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

You know, saying it is because of the "parents" turned on a lightbulb. This is the first batch of chickens I ever raised from a hatchery. I have always had a broody hen hatch out chicks, or I bought chicks from someone whose hen hatched them out. So the mother hen was always teaching them how...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

LOL yes that could be it too! There are 3 poles - all varying heights from about 12" to 4' to 7'. So they could choose low, middle or high. I don't have any photos here unfortunately.

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

Ok, well at least I'm not alone! It is very stressful for me to watch them fall from 7 feet up on the air. We are going to take down that top roost so they can't get up that high in the first place. I have tried different things - lights on, lights off, covering the roosts in fleece wraps...

Desperate for help - roost pole craziness

I have had chickens my entire life and have NEVER seen anything so ridiculous as this. I have 13 hens and 1 rooster I raised from day old chicks from McMurray. They are coming up on 4 months old now. Every night when it's time to go to bed, these chickens turn into crazed lunatics. They...
