    Dry Hatching Cortunix Quails

Neon green doesn’t sound good. My current hatch I tried listerine to disinfect. I suspect I had some bacteria issues in the past. Locking down later today :fl

I agree that you would have had to soak them a long time to get any listerine inside those eggs. More likely mould or bacteria. As well as cleaning the incubator you should wash your hands and make sure where you store eggs is very clean.

I don’t think infertile eggs compromise the other eggs in terms of moisture and oxygen. They aren’t “breathing” after all. I’d be more concerned about bacteria growing and contaminating the good eggs.

I know! It’s crazy how much it varies! I think I’m going to try your way and experiment out from there.

Why do you lock down on day 13? I’ve never heard of anyone locking down that early.

That is definitely a lot of eggs to turn! Must take forever! My universal racks hold 48 quail eggs. I’ve just been using them to hold eggs and I tip them manually. Waiting on a motor to come in.

I’m adding a small amount of water to get mine to 40% right now, but I don’t add it till it completely dries out and sits at about 25%. Hopefully I’m not hurting my hatch by doing this. Going to aim for 60+ at lockdown.

I’ve been reading about dry incubating, but I haven’t tried it. I would be interested at how it turns out with quail. Most of what I’ve read has to do with chicken eggs. You are also half way around the world for me so I’m sure that will have a roll to play on how things work as well :)
