I have always used this cage for store bought or shipped chicks. Never had a problem. The floor is 2' off the ground but a Raccoon could reach that far. But this cage is inside a run which has 2x4 welded wire and 1/2" hardwire cloth topped with 1" heavy nylon bird...
We live in the boondocks with heavy woods on 3 sides. Dogs bark at everything all night. The chicken coop and 40x70 run are on the other side of our metal building/ shop/ garage. So we do not hear them at all unless windows are open.
The underneath part was only fenced to keep chickens from eating wet wasted feed not to keep critters out. The floor is above that.

There was a 12"x24" board with nest box in there. Feeder and water with rocks in it to keep chicks safe.
I guess a rat could grab them from under neath, just never seen rats here. Only mice
No gaps. The skulls were just raw meat covered. Do not see how anything could pull the thru 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Posted pic of the skulls as I found them
Thank you. We do have mice, but still do not see a way for it to get in. I put 1" x 2" welded wire around the bottom to keep other chickens from eating wet feed that was dropped
Do not know why is loaded so many. My WiFi is very slow. Maybe that was the problem.

Have not been on in a long while. But I need soon help. Had a Banty hen with 7 2 week old in a 4x4 2 foot high coop. 2 ft off the ground. Solid 1/2" hardware cloth, sides, bottom and roof with 3/4" plywood on roof.
