I have had broodies kill their chicks but it was within a couple days old not weeks later. And she did not eat them. I will know for sure in the am.

We live in the boondocks with heavy woods on 3 sides. Dogs bark at everything all night. The chicken coop and 40x70 run are on the other side of our metal building/ shop/ garage. So we do not hear them at all unless windows are open.

There was a 12"x24" board with nest box in there. Feeder and water with rocks in it to keep chicks safe. I guess a rat could grab them from under neath, just never seen rats here. Only mice

No gaps. The skulls were just raw meat covered. Do not see how anything could pull the thru 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Posted pic of the skulls as I found them
