Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

And please don't let these carbon footprint comments deter your decision. WVDan, Thanks... I'm totally on the same page as you. This was a crop, I have no problem cutting it. We are leaving the indigenous forested areas (most of the 8+ acres) intact. The house is on about 1.5 cleared acres and...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

Pat- Thanks SO much for your reply. Yes, I think you "get " what we're after here. Goldenrod and native weedy stuff is FINE ( I personally like looking at fields like that), and we're more than likely getting a few goats for milk, so my naive plan (before researching it) is that we'd rotate...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

Thanks again for all your comments. I think I read someplace that evergreens (they're probably some type of fir tree) have stumps that rot out pretty quickly. And don't sucker like hardwoods. Anyone have experience with that? I wonder if just cutting them low and letting them rot for a few years...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. I think we'll be going out to the property again later this week to walk the land. (Last time it was dusk and we only saw the hosue and yard.) I'll look more losely at the area we're thinking of clearing, the size of the trees, the slope, etc. Sounds like...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

I agree, but if some (or all) of them have to go, at least dont make it a total waste. I would love to have those trees in my front yard. We bought some 2' ones last year, so its going to be a long wait. We want a row of trees to block the railroad tracks & road from our front yard. So, how...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

Thanks for your replies... Just to be clear, the trees are NOT 25 years old, nor are we talking about clearing the entire lot. The trees are only maybe 10 years old, are not a native species (they were planted as a crop for Christmas Trees) and that section of the land (ex-Christmas tree farm)...

Landowners....... how difficult is it to clear land for pasture?

So--- we just put our suburban house on the market and we're looking at houses with more land. We looked at one possibility the other day which has 8.7 acres, however, only a small portion of it around the house is cleared. behind the house is an area that used to be a Christmas Tree farm, now...
