Thank you everyone for your support. Buckeye died this morning at 10:30. Towards the end, he seemed to relax and get comfotable. He even tried to sunbathe in front of the propane heater. He was a wonderful little rooster, as well as intelligent. He was trained to type "hi", walk on harness, to...
Thank you for the suggestions everyone. He has actually been in a towel, on handwarmers/hot water bottles all night long. I took his temperature. It was 96.2. Now, he is in front of a HOT portable propane heater, on handwarmers, under a towel with a pan of hot water under it (for humidity), and...
Well, It s 4:22 am here. Buckeye is alive, barely. His body temperature must be as low as yesterday, or lower. He's cold, so cold, to the touch. But he is breathing and swallowing. I gave him some warm water, but I don't think there is anything else to be done.
Thanks everyone. His condition hasn't changed.
pontoosuc, I'm not sure why our vet prescribed it orally, but it could have to do with the fact that even though I'm willing to give him injections, I'm inexperienced and it will be challenging. She must think that it will be as effective if given...
Hi everyone.
Well, our vet thinks that he became toxic from the buildup of the drug in his system. By the time we took him to the vet, he had gotten worse. He just wanted to sleep. They gave him dextrose and lactaded ringers solution, orally and in a subcutaneous injection. Here's his treatment...
Hi everyone. Thanks for the well wishes. Buckeye did survive the night, barely.
I'm beginning to doubt that it was a phenobarb OD. He hasn't had it in 48 hours, and all he's done is get worse. Now, he can't even stand without falling over and rolling around. I weighed him and he weighs 14.4...
I really don't think he'll make it through the night. He is weakening so fast. He's eating and drinking now, and has had a full crop all day, electrolytes, etc., but he is just getting worse.

An avian vet that I've spoken to has informed me that yogurt actually isn't good for them.
Thank you for your suggestions, but I will not cull him. You may have missed the part where I called him a treasured pet. I am willing to invest the time and money for him to survive. Besides, he...

Thanks for your input.
How long do you think I'll need to wait? If it is too long, I don't know if I can keep him alive.
Yes, I think that could be arranged.
Sharol:
Thank you very much for your input. I do think that what you say makes sense. I have been giving him smaller pieces of his medicine lately, but not much smaller. His medication varies slightly in size, as it is unbelievably hard to cut an already small pill into eighths. I haven't given...

Yogurt actually isn't very good for chickens. So far, I've given him warm, wet crumbles, electrolyte water, and karo syrup.
He is almost 2 years old.

Buckeye has some form of epilepsy. He gets 1/8th of a tablet of phenobarb per day. He has been taking it for a month and a half. Within the last week, he has lost 2 ounces of weight (he only weighed 16 ounces to begin with) and now he is super weak and has no balance. He is also extremely...
