My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

I had forgotten that Frack had this problem until I saw these new posts this morning! I am happy to say Frack recovered and lived another almost 3 years, dying just a couple of weeks ago at the age of 10+. She was the best! It was the amoxicillin for fish that I used.

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

I couldn't have done it without those of you who helped so much on this thread! Frack is one of my first chickens. We have since built up a nice community of Brahmas, but Frack has always been special. She is housebroken. She comes when she is called. She even used to lay her eggs in our...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Frack seems to be completely cured. She is eating on her own and this morning even jumped out of her "bed," a cage-bottom that we were using for her. She will remain on amoxicillin for another 3 days and will rejoin the flock as soon as I find homes for about 6 newly amorous cockerels that I...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Update: I have been tube feeding Frack twice a day since Friday, flock raiser with amoxicillin in it. She is now pooping regularly and is holding her head up more. She still droops her head part of the time, but is eating a bit on her own and seems to be well on the way to recovery. We were...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

We bought some tubing from the pet store. I put some flock raiser soaked in water in my Ninja and buzzed it up until it was smooth. I added some vitamins and fed her about 40 cc. It was much easier than I thought it would be, much less stress than forcing her beak open and putting a finger...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Frack really isn't constipated, I think she just isn't eating enough to create much in the line of waste. When she does have a BM, which is twice a day, it's kind of runny. Today she seems to be holding her head up a little better. She is trying to eat on her own, but can't get the food to...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

There seems to be a bit of an improvement. Twice today I saw her lift her head up normally, just for a few seconds, but she did it! She had a little egg this morning for added protein and some watermelon a couple of times throughout the day to help with hydration as it is difficult to get a...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Frack made it through the night with no change in her condition. She ate some scrambled egg, with help from me as she cannot lift her head, but swallowed well when I put bites in her mouth. She is otherwise strong and I've got my fingers crossed. Getting water down her throat without...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Well, it's evening now and Frack is still in the kitchen. She is pooping a little, and it's runnier than usual. I have been dribbling water with electrolytes in her mouth every couple of hours. I also put some moistened food in her mouth a few times and she is eating it. Her eyes are bright...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

She is inside now. She is interested in food but doesn't have control of her neck so isn't eating. In a while I will dribble some moistened food in her mouth to keep her strength up. She is close to 12 pounds, so is not in danger of wasting away any time soon. I did help her with some water...

My beautiful Frack is sick/injured? Can't hold head up. Update: Happy ending to this story!!!!

Frack is a dark Brahma hen, about 8 or so years old. She has been my friend since the day she hatched. She is housebroken and comes inside to lay her eggs, although in recent years she has only been laying occasionally. She still comes inside every day to visit and for a treat, as she did...
