    That method sounds like it would work too. I'd only be concerned that the chick might freak out about the water, but it should clean the sticky off the bird :) It just takes time to get the sticky stuff moist and moving, then it will come off... I hadn't read your post when I posted earlier...

    Not necessary, and it dries the skin and feathers out. It could also be irritating to the chick, even causing an allergic reaction. I'd only use dish soap on a bird if it needed to have oil removed from it, like rescuers do after an oil spill. Water is all you need.

    No; do not use dish soap. What I believe you're running into, the sticky substance, is likely the albumin, maybe the chorion, but more likely the albumin. The chorion envelops the chick and all membranes providing an overall enclosure during development; the albumin is what is left outside...
