I've heard a lot of good things about the OEGB breed from owner feedback. I considered OEGB along with about 5 other bantam breeds and it is so hard to make choices when I am zoned for only 5 birds. Some cities around me are limited to 3 hens! Ridiculous! As fate had it a friend of mine had...

    bantam breeds

Just about any large fowl breed can come in bantam. However, I assume you are talking about TRUE bantams rather than the large fowl breeds engineered into bantam sizes. I have heard of bantam Delawares, Dominiques, Leghorns, RIR, and Wyandottes! Even Silkies that come in large fowl have...

Pretty birds! I love bantams too. For being broody -- bantams still lay a lot of eggs, are generally docile birds, and seem to do better in bad weather than large fowl. Not very many people consider bantams as practical but they've been our best birds in the long run. Silkies were our first...

I kept hoping against hope that the chick would make it -- my farm Mom's experience with raising poultry is that stunted growth chicks usually passed. I'm just glad it got excellent care with you as long as it lived. Hope your child wasn't too heartbroken. Losing something so tiny and cute.

The chick is lucky you were the ones who bought it or else it might have been squished in someone else's care. Japanese bantams are a little chicken but have enormous tails. Japanese used to only come in white with black tails but now I understand they come in other colors too. Keep us posted...

That is just too cute! Chickens have flock mentality/comraderie -- so glad the Brahma is good w/ the tiny chick -- Brahma are supposed to be a docile breed but they do get very big - unless it's a bantam Brahma? I wonder how the feed store happened to get a tiny chick in their hatchery order?

How do you plan to raise it since the other bigger breeds will be tempted to bully it? chickenmon on youtube had a Serama roo that she kept as a house chicken in chicken diapers which she shows how to sew. She kept the Serama in the house because it had foot problems and she had to make...

The tiny size of that chick would scare the heck out of me. Looks like it is either suffering a growth impediment and will need extra loving care or else it is healthy and beats the world's tiniest chicken record! I don't think it will survive the other birds getting bigger faster since I had...

Are you getting any clue as to what breed the bantam is? Serama are the smallest chicken breed and are the smallest chicks.

    bantam breeds

Wish I could snap my fingers and give a magic answer -- but chicks are a mystery. My farm Mom says chicks are delicate and some make it and some don't. There's no knowing what will be. I had a supposedly healthy active Dominique chick for 3 weeks and then she suffered a sudden seizure...

    bantam breeds

Would you happen to have photos you can post so we can see what you're talking about? Bantams of any breed are the cutest birds and the girls usually are a broody bunch and need extra care to make sure they get off their nests to eat/drink/dust-bathe/etc. Some bantam roos can actually help his...

At this point they will qualify as titled Easter Eggers that have the most beautiful array of colors and patterns to choose from. BYC has a thread about the EE history and it's fascinating. If our APA Blue Wheaten Ameraucana (my avatar) wasn't such a noisy hen I'd invest in some EEs but she...

It's amazing how completely black these chicks are. A lot of black breeds are born black but often with yellow-white down underbellies or wing tips but these chicks look like Cemani chicks - completely black all over!
