So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Well the skunk has met its end. I got 6 eggs today and figured out that my 2nd November pullet is now laying. And yes it did release the smell when it died, but at least not on me. Whew!

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Quote: I've released 2 previously and never had any trouble with them. I consider them in the same class as possums in regard to "threat level" to my birds. I'm curious now what you consider the "threat level" of possums? I've always known them to be considered only slightly less of a...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

The problem I'm having the past few days is that it's reaching through the trap wire to get the bait instead of going inside the trap. It emptied 2 traps and I think I scared it away before it could finish the 3rd. I got mad and set leg traps next to the box trap to catch it when it tried this...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Quote: I've released 2 previously and never had any trouble with them. I consider them in the same class as possums in regard to "threat level" to my birds. However, I believe they are in the Mink family, like weasels, so they could be worse than I know. From my recent experience, the young...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Yup, looks like I'll be trapping in full force again! Two coons in the past 3 days! Got to get some more padlocks so I can set up all the traps, coz 2-legged skunks made off with one of my coon traps last fall. Annoying really, before you know it I'll have a whole ring full of keys just for my...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

I had an egg that quit in the bator on day 4ish. I put it in the big trap for bait and this is what I caught: Good use of a bad egg if I do say so myself The skunk must know I'm on to him, because there were 2 eggs still in the nest tonight. I put one in the smaller trap for bait. Sad way to...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Quote: I've released them in the same fashion, ones that weren't causing problems. Which maybe means the youngin stealing eggs could be one of their kids. Eh, anyways. Both traps are set and baited one with an egg and one with cat food. Today is the first time I actually smelled skunk when I...

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

Quote: Well that's generally how I take care of predators, haven't missed yet either. Guess I could TRY on a skunk. I'm not afraid I'll miss, I'm just afraid they'll release their spray when they die

So how would you manage a problem skunk?

So I have a new skunk in the area, a baby/teenager that is stealing eggs every night. Trapping skunks is easy, but how does one go about disposing of the problem animal? I understand they will spray when they die no matter how you shoot them....or so I've heard. I'd rather avoid that.
